Is it possible to achieve an orgasm while working out?
Maybe you’ve read an article about the hyped “fitness orgasm” or have heard rumors of its occurrence from other ladies at your local gym. Well, guess what? The whispers are true. Experiencing an orgasm on your own, without a partner or a sex toy, solely thanks to exercising IS possible. It’s called a coregasm and could be even more common than you think.
For people who’ve never experienced this, it may sound like a dream workout-side-effect. You sweat in your active wear, lift weights, crunch, do squats and BUM! Here comes the coregasm like a wave of tsunami. Who would not want that?
Well, actually, there is a downside to it too. Imagine being in a room full of strangers, minding their own business and suddenly you start moaning and “exploding into a thousand pieces” in front of everyone. Not bad enough? Then picture this happening while you are with a bunch of friends in the middle of a workout session. Sexual pleasure in the gym might cost you some embassament and even losing your membership card. Yiks! Now you might understand why coregasms are usually unwanted.
What is a fitness orgasm and what does it feel like?
The official definition for coregasm is “an exercise-induced orgasm”. It’s when you experience a spontaneous orgasm while doing intense exercises that engage (or actually overtax) the core.
Most people claim that an orgasm during exercise feels different from an orgasm during sex or masturbation. It occurs much deeper in the body and is more muscular. Coregasm has less of the tingle and build up of a clitoral orgasm. Some folks also claim that they actually have more control over a work-out orgasm. Although it may come on like a storm, they can manage to stop it before it actually happens.
Exercises supporting coregasm

It does occur most frequently to people while performing core workouts. Coregasms likely happen with core exercises due to the combination of pelvic floor contraction along with pressure from surrounding muscles. However, you don’t need to be a core-training-aficionado to experience a coregasm. Some folks can achieve an orgasm from biking, running, swimming, weightlifting, pilates or yoga.
Word of advice: practicing your Kegel exercises every day might increase your chances for a coregasm. The stronger your muscles are, the easier it could be for your pelvic floor to contract in order to climax. So if you aren’t already doing Kegels, now might be the time to start.
Let’s proceed with mastering the coregasm.
1. warm-up
Humans need a rush of blood flow through the pelvis and genital region to achieve orgasm. This is particularly true for women, as increased blood flow engages the female sympathetic nervous system and heightens arousal responses to sexual stimuli. That’s why it makes sense to start your gym session with some intensive cardio and get your heart rate up. Cardio helps release serotonin and endorphins – two neurochemicals associated with arousal. So the magic preparation to increase your chances for a coregasm is: warming up with cardio, blood in pelvic floor and hormone rush. Got it? Goooood. Let’s move to some hard-core exercising.
2. core exercises
As you know, core exercises (especially the ones that engage the lower abdominal muscles and the pelvic floor) can cause an orgasm while working out. Therefore, focus on your abdomen and do it really hard, by either adding more reps or weights to your exercise.
Exercises that can help achieve a coregasm are L-Sits and hanging tuck exercises (from rings or a bar), the pull-ups (in fact, pull-ups were the culprit for me once) and the captain’s chair. The last one is when you hold yourself up in a piece of exercise equipment that looks like a chair with armrests and no seat so that your legs hang down freely. You then lift your legs out at a 90-degree angle, keeping your back straight, or bend your knees up into your chest. This engages all core muscles and works them pretty intensely!
If you prefer to stay on the floor, try flutter kicks, hip thrusts, or squats. These exercises also engage the lower abdominal muscles and the pelvic floor. Yoga lovers can test out asanas which open your hips and engage your pelvis, like lifted lotus pose, plow pose, or pigeon pose.
Remember: you need to fatigue the core muscles, as for most people who experience coregasms, they only happen when their muscles are exhausted and contract intensively. So be ambitious in your training but also make sure to pay attention to what is going on inside your body. Allow exercise to put you in a sexy state of mind.
Is coregasm exclusive for ladies?
Good news gentlemen: an orgasm during exercise can happen to you too! Good vibrations are not just happening to women while working out. While the scientific research is not fully conclusive, it seems that almost anyone (both men and women) can have a coregasm. Unfortunately not everyone does. Factors like body alignment, anatomy, and emotional state all influence the ability to have a workout orgasm.
The little research that exists on the exercise-induced orgasm focuses exclusively on ladies. One of the first mentions of this issue was made by a famous sexologist Alfred Kinsey and his team in 1953. In their study, 5 percent of women admitted experiencing orgasm while exercising. In more recent studies, this number is much higher (up to 23 percent), but the scientific community still needs to investigate further. There is only minimal research on the subject so far.
If we cannot ask scientists, let’s turn to personal trainers, shall we? According to gym professionals, the number of coregasm occurrences is actually pretty high and men can absolutely experience it. And by “it” I mean having some embarrassing episodes while exercising. It’s thought that male coregasms are caused by internal muscle pressure stimulating the prostate. Young guys tend to fall victim to coregasm more often than mature men, suggesting that it’s possible there is a hormonal aspect as well. So for men, it may be more common in their younger years when hormones are surging. Women tend to experience coregasm while ovulating, which leads to a conclusion that there may be a connection to the menstrual cycle.
How to avoid exercise-induced coregasms?
Sometimes having a fitness orgasm, and especially a gym orgasm, just isn’t ideal. Imagine climaxing in a room full of strangers. Embarrassing, right? Having just one exercise-induced coregasm is enough to make you panic and rush in search of ways to prevent it from happening again. Fortunately, there are some ways to deal with this “problem”.
Here is what you can do to prevent coregasm:
1. One LESS Set/Repetition
In most cases, coregasms happen when you push yourself too hard and overwork your abdominal muscles. That “just one more” pull-up repetition or leg raise is likely the culprit. So, the simple answer is to stop before you are fully exhausted. Do fewer reps per set than you usually would and focus on making the ones you do perfect every time. Instead of counting the repetitions and doing more and more to exhaust your body – make every rep count.
2. Mindful approach to your training
Being mindful can also go a long way. It’s an essential part of getting what you want from your training and avoiding things you don’t want. You can start to pay attention to how certain positioning, muscle contractions, and other factors impact your body. You’ll start to learn your body’s signals, so that you’re not blindsided. Awareness in your training will help you learn what, specifically, induces coregasms for you and allow you to back off in time.
Gaining mindful control over your body is the first step in stopping exercise-induced coregasms in their tracks. If you feel one coming on, then slow your workout-speed, move on to the next exercise for the day, or stop entirely to cool off your body and let the feeling pass. Trust me, a water break is always a good idea.
To sum it all up
Now you know what to do in order to experience a coregasm and to avoid having one in public. That said, I want to stress one thing: there is no obligation to experience an exercise-induced orgasm, just like there is no push to have one with a partner or alone. You may achieve a coregasm one day, or you might not — it’s not a requirement, and either is fine. Enjoy your workouts and stay in shape folks!
